What are French doors?

French doors (eng. French doors) is a classic solution that is becoming increasingly popular all over the world, including the American market. They are characterized by an elegant appearance and functionality, working perfectly in both modern and traditional arrangements. They can be available in single or double leaf versions, opening outwards or inwards. French doors do not have to be glazed - they can also be made in the form of panel doors, which additionally increases their versatility.

However, what makes them unique is not only the aesthetic aspects, but also the advanced fittings that determine their high functionality. Today we will introduce you to the details of the fittings used in French doors, which we use in the production of PVC and wooden joinery, and soon also aluminum.

Fittings in French doors

The fittings dedicated to French doors differ from those most commonly found in traditional European doors. One of the key solutions is the use of a movable post in double-leaf doors. Thanks to this, when opening both leaves, we also open the post, which creates a larger passageway. Such a system is particularly practical in the case of balcony or terrace doors, where a wide passage is a great advantage.

In French doors, both halves of the door are operated by handles, which distinguishes them from European solutions, where the passive leaf is usually operated by angle-bolts. Operating the door with handles in French doors is characterized by a specific technique:

  • Pressing the handle: The handle returns to its original position, allowing the door to be opened.
  • Lifting the handle: This action not only locks the door leaf, but also activates an additional locking mechanism that increases the number of locking points along the entire length of the door leaf – both at the top and bottom. This ensures better sealing of the door and increases its resistance to weather conditions.

The unique mechanism of the fitting used in French doors increases the safety of use. Locking takes place not only on the sides of the leaf, but also on its upper and lower edges, which improves the tightness and stability of the entire structure. When the handle is lifted, we also open the possibility of locking the door using the lock insert, which adds another level of security.

Thanks to the use of this solution, French doors become not only an aesthetic element of the home's equipment, but also a solid, safe choice that will work well both in doors leading to the terrace and in the main entrances to the building.

French doors are a combination of style and functionality, which we can offer in various types of joinery – PVC, wood, and soon also aluminum. Our advanced fittings guarantee not only an elegant appearance, but also safety, comfort of use and durability of the structure. If you are looking for doors that will give your home a unique character, while at the same time being a solid solution for years, French doors are an excellent choice.
