From Luzin, across the ocean. Bertrand on the American market.

As we wrote in one of our last texts, european windows are very popular on American market. When talking about transactions over such a long distance, it is impossible not to take into account the extensive logistical issues, including: transport products by, also by ocean. So how does this happen?

When considering the purchase of window joinery products, you should start by choosing the right supplier for you. The company, located in Luzino BERTRAND has been producing high-quality windows and doors since 1969. Wooden and wooden-aluminium products are manufactured in-house from A to Z, without any external involvement. First windows were exported already in the 90s, and significant quantities began to be exported to European countries in 2002. Around 2008, our windows began to reach various corners of the world outside Europe, most often to the United States, Canada, Israel, Australia or New Zealand.

Our company employs experienced people customer advisorswho will help you choose the right products and solutions for your specific needs – both for private buildings What larger projects.

– The most popular products on the American market are primarily PVC products with an acrylic outer surface and black veneer, as well as Smoovio sliding doors, primarily due to their tightness, which translates into greater resistance to weather conditions, noise, etc. They are also characterized by excellent thermal insulation and an attractive price. Smoovio doors can also be used as a sliding window, because their minimum height is 39 inches. This can be useful if you want to use such a window in places where opening inwards will interfere with things inside the room after opening. On the other hand, the maximum height allows you to meet the needs of most buildings for sliding doors, because they can measure up to 96 inches – he says. Olaf Bertrand, Marketing and Export Director at BERTRAND. – We also most often supply accordion doors and large-size sliding structures made of aluminium. We produce multislide sliding doors, i.e. with a large number of sliding fields, and so-called pocket doors, i.e. sliding solutions in which the structure is completely hidden in the walls of the building and allows you to enjoy the view without any visual barriers, brings us closer to the nature surrounding the house and makes it easier to bring in larger items, e.g. furniture. We also produce double-leaf French doors, typical for the American market, with handles in each door leaf. Wooden and aluminium products have also gained recognition. Americans and Canadians most often buy the Synergic Alu line from our company, with a very modern look characterized by angular shapes and a hidden leaf from the outside. Depending on preferences, due to the hidden leaf, we can hide the window frames in the building's façade. In this variant, only the glass will be visible from the outside. In addition, the frames of the Synergic and Synergic Alu systems are 33% lower than conventional competitive systems. Customers also choose BB Line 82 products characterized by high thermal U factor parameters and an excellent price-quality ratio, and PVC systems such as Linear due to its modern design, thanks to which the window gives the impression that it is made entirely of aluminum with an excellent U factor parameter and 3 seals around the entire perimeter of the structure, which are responsible for an additional thermal barrier and against weather conditions. We also offer passive windows and wood-aluminum windows in the Alutrend system, which allows for many possibilities of design configuration (from retro to modern), color (wood-like colors on aluminum overlays, anodizing of overlays, matt or structural varnishing) and shapes of the structure, e.g. trapezoids, triangles or arches. As a curiosity, I will add that recently we have once again produced Dutch doors made of wood, which were sent to California. Dutch doors are characterized by two wings. These doors have the additional option of opening only the upper leaf independently while the lower leaf is locked.

Due to the type of goods and storage conditions, windows and doors are transported to the USA by sea (which can take 3 to 6 weeks, depending on location) and, occasionally, air. BERTRAND consistently strives to ensure that this process runs smoothly and without complications.

– Years of experience have allowed us to increase loading efficiency and product safety during container shipments – he points out. Olaf Bertrand. – We constantly analyze not only how our products behave after time installed in the building, but also improve the packaging of products. BERTRAND products are loaded into the container on wooden racks and are properly secured using transport strips from the bottom of the structure. Additionally, our windows, depending on the structure, are secured with stretch and cardboard. Glass from unglazed structures or for facades are secured with special transport frames, sometimes, in the case of larger dimensions, reinforced with steel.

The properly prepared windows and doors are then transported by land to the port, where they are approved by a forwarding company before they sail. Once the goods have reached the port, the customer is contacted by a customs agent or a forwarding company, which also takes care of delivering the order to its destination.
